MAUMU!!!

Claire is in love with Finding Nemo (Maumu) and all things fish. However much she likes fish, I didn't really expect her to be so naughty. Instead of getting angry at the situation, I thought of my friend Nicole and how she always takes pictures of the less finer moments of being a mommy. Without further adieu....

She was throwing fish food EVERYWHERE. I think she knows I can't vacuum yet or something and wants to make a mess. So much for not vacuuming since fish food doesn't smell like roses. The little stinker.

Here's the Story

Monday morning I had an appointment with my OB/GYN. I was dilated to a 2+, so he said that stripping my membranes again at this point might actually help me go into labor. I was very skeptical, but told him to do it anyway. I had my membranes stripped with Claire 3 times, so I didn't hope for much. However, I got home from my appointment and timed my contractions all day long with them being 10 minutes apart. We still didn't get our hopes up because they didn't hurt, but around 6 pm they started to actually get painful. I would walk around the house hurting, but as soon as I started to relax, my contractions would stop or slow down to 15-20 minutes apart. I was getting a little disconcerted that they weren't getting closer together, but we decided to call my mom down here around 10 anyway because they were so painful. When I called her, I told her that if I hadn't seen it and/or experienced having a baby before, I would have thought babies came out the other way. As Amy Pohler wisely put it in Baby Mama, "It feel like I'm [pooping] a knife." Thank you Amy...that is exactly what it feels like. I laugh now at the phrase, but more at the fact that it's true. Then she gets wheel-chaired down the hospital hallway knocking things over or almost hitting everyone in her way. That is also what I felt like doing.

Between waiting for mom to get here, putting Claire to bed, and getting ready for the hospital, it was 11:30 by the time we actually got to the hospital. Laboring at home is LAME. Claire was so easy. Go to the hospital...laughing, fall asleep...still laughing and excited. Pain? Oh no problem...let me give you an epidural. Then sleep. Sigh. That was nice. All of you natural child-birthers can now think less of me because I am such weak sauce. However, if I were to choose between being induced and going spontaneous, I probably would choose......ugh.....spontaneous again. After all...he was a day early and that is pretty wonderful.

When we got to the hospital I was dilated to a 4+, so it still wasn't a for sure thing that I could stay. I was REALLY hoping to stay since I was in so much pain and I couldn't wait for my epidural. After a few minutes of waiting and a few contractions I really thought they were going to send me home since I wasn't convinced that my contractions were strong enough; however, the nurses came back from trying to find the doctor and said they were making the executive decision in letting me stay. HALLELUJAH!!!! In no time at all the anesthesiologist was there to give me my epidural. I told him he was my new hero as he put a gigantic needle into my spine. Never felt so good. Just 20 minutes or so from not having any pain! I couldn't have been more excited. It was 12:30 am when they gave the epidural and when they checked me a few minutes later, I was still dilated to a 4+. After 15 minutes of waiting, the epidural had made my legs a little numb and my bottom a little numb, but I was still feeling my contractions. After another half hour I asked the nurse if it was normal for it not to be working at this point. She just said that she would get the anesthesiologist as soon as he was out of his c-section. Somewhere during that hour my water had broken. I remember being so excited that my water broke with Claire, but this time I just wanted her to stop touching my legs to let me die in agony and at least my legs would be together.

At 1:45 the anesthesiologist finally came in, gave me the "strong stuff" and said that every contraction would be less and less pain. Oh, how I wanted to believe him, but nothing was happening. My legs got more and more numb, but my contractions were coming on with a vengeance. All I remember during the whole thing is trying to take it one contraction at a time. I was trying to stare at various things to help me through them. I believe I asked Brian 3 times to kill me, which he replied a strong, "NO". Darn it man, have some sympathy! :) I also remember almost blacking out, but then I thought, "Oh no, if I do that, then I'll have to have a c-section....and my epidural isn't working. That would be worse." So I just breathed and relaxed as much as I could. Somewhere in the midst of all the pain was the thought of Hawaii. Sigh. I believe that is on my list of places I should be visiting soon.

After that I'm not sure of the time frame. Dr. Wolsey came in sometime around 2 and told me that I was fully dilated and that I would be delivering soon. I saw him a couple times for my prenatal visits with Claire and he had told me, "There is no special place in Heaven for people who endure that much pain" trying to convince me that going natural isn't the way to go. I reminded him of that advice and told him, "I think I'm deserving that special place in heaven today." Since he was sort of making jokes to make light of the situation, I thought I'd give it a try. I thought I was pretty funny, but I don't know what he thought of my so-called joke. I just closed my eyes and breathed. After about 20 minutes in normal time and an eternity to me, Dr. Wolsey sat at the edge of the table and asked me if I had the urge to push. Talking between tears and little screams, I told him that I couldn't feel anything but pain, so he had me push anyway. I tell you, it did feel better to push during the contractions. He told me that he was going to give me an episiotomy since I tore with Claire, but during the time it took him to swivel his chair away and back to me, he looked and just told me to push instead. Once I started pushing I was determined not to stop until this baby was here or I was dead. Luckily he was delivered and I did not die. Since I could still feel everything above my pelvis, I could feel him leave my stomach. What a weird, yet very cool feeling. I could feel his little feet leave and once he was out it kind of felt like, what I would say, a blip feeling. You know....blip. Just like my stomach emptied everything. Now, people tell me that it's good that I was numb from the waist down instead of feeling him come out, but let me tell you, I would have taken it the opposite way any day. Feeling the contractions for hours was by far worse than the delivery pain that is there and gone in a matter of minutes. How do I know that since I didn't feel actually feel it the opposite way? My mom said so and she had 3 natural. So there. She said contractions are worse and I agree. Good news, I didn't tear this time.

I never ever want to do it, what I call, "half natural" ever again. You people who do it natural are....amazing. I can't do it. Well, I guess I sort of did it...half-ishly. So, I'm sure I could do it, but I certainly don't want to. Now, I'm not saying that the whole experience was horrible. I think birth is an amazing thing, so I did have a good experience even though it didn't go the way I would have liked. I just wouldn't choose to do it naturally if I had the choice.

Jared was born at 2:22 am weighing 6 lbs 2 oz. Tiny! I watched his little body come out just as I did with Claire, and it always a miracle. It really is a miracle and lets face it, I was so glad it was over and that he came fast. His cord was also incredibly short, just as Claire's AND he was born in the same room that Claire was born in.

Poor Brian couldn't hold him due to him being sick the previous week. He still had a cough and didn't dare get him sick. I got to snuggle him right away and tried to warm him up despite feeling like he would fly out of my arms from my shaking so badly. He is so handsome! His hair is perfect, just like he went to the barber right before he came out. He has tiny little legs and long skinny arms. He is so little. He was tongue-tied as well, so we had to have his tongue clipped and I'm sure his tummy is much happier that it has more food in it since the clipping. It was a little hard to eat when his tongue wasn't working properly. We love him so much!

It is wonderful being a new mommy again. My emotions are mostly back to normal (thank goodness), but I do get a little sad that I can't pick up Claire for another month. It's hard on me and her since she wants mommy time so much. I'm sure we'll both make due with hugs on the floor. She loves her little brother and always wants to hold and kiss him.

Since we've been home, Jared has had jaundice. I just got the call that he doesn't have to be on phototherapy anymore! YAY!!! It was a long couple of nights with him on the lights and I'm very grateful to sleep in my bed again and catch up on some much needed sleep.

Our little man with his skinny little legs.
Crazy, crazy hair. It hasn't done this since, so I'm glad we got pictures of it.

Holding mommy's finger.
Daddy holding his feet.

Brian looks like, and probably is holding his breath. He didn't want to get him sick.

Some Pics of Jared Monte Anderson

Well I just figured out that i should have uploaded them in reverse chronological order but here they are. Claire loves her baby brother, she already gave him 2 kisses. She wasn't the happiest camper when she left the hospital though.
Grandma is here too!! I love this picture!
Stacy is much much happier now that Jared is alive and well. She isn't listening to me and napping though. This pic is just after his bath at about 4:30 am.
Right after he was born he was a little pale and chilly but he pinked right up after snuggling with Stacy.
There our little guy is, a full pound and a couple ounces smaller than Claire. He has got some catching up to do.
I hesitated to post this pic because he looks so sad but this was just one minute after being born. Well, we will probably post more as they come. Soon stacy will take back the reins of the blog for a much better read :-). Hope you like them!

Labor and Delivery

I told Brian he'd come early! One day early. I like being right. :)

Here are the updates:

Dr. Appt today-dialated 2+. Stripped membranes again. Started contractions 10 min apart all day, but not to painful.

Painful contractions start 6 pm.

Admitted to hospital at.11:30. Dialated to a 4+.

Three cheers for the epidural at 12:30!!! Still a 4+.
Waiting for the epidural to kick in...

1:54-Epidural hasn't been working, just gave the dose (they were stuck in a c section). Stacy is in major pain. Her water broke sometime in the past hour. The baby is fully effaced and she is at a 5 and the baby is at a 0 station.
2:22- baby Anderson was born. Epidural never kicked in and the times are correct she went from a 5 to delivery in 28 minutes. He is a healthy boy at 6 lbs 2 ounces and 18.5 inches. Right now he is just in moms arms. Sadly I'm sick so I can't hold him just yet. Later we will post pictures.

He is a darling, tiny little guy! Dark hair and just teeny. His eyes are still puffy, but mom think he has the cutest nose. He's already a great eater when we can get him to be awake.

The epidural better work next time!

I See Where This is Going...

I am living with a couple of sickies. Don't get me wrong, my nose has been the 4th member of the Anderson Cold household for the last few weeks, but I'm a mom, right? I can't let a cold get me down. I have to function and perform admirably every day. Then there was last night....

Brian- coughing
Claire-coughing and nose running like a river
Baby- contractions every few minutes

I think my family is trying to tell me where my actual place in life is and where it is going to be with one more baby. Mommy doesn't get breaks. What was I thinking?

I was going to clean out our microwave last night, but didn't get around to it since Claire didn't go to bed until later and I still had to mop our sticky floors. I told the big man upstairs that this baby can come AFTER the microwave is clean. I know that I told him it would be clean before bedtime, but maybe I forgot to tell him that I actually didn't get it done. Yes, it's that important. I don't want my mom to peer into the chili bomb house and be disgusted, regretting that she ever told me that she would be by post-baby caretaker. However, I really thought that my contractions were going to get bad enough or that my water would break just because I was taking care of two sicklies. That's just how it would go, right?

Well, I eventually let poor, sick Claire cry herself to sleep for the third time and I went back to bed after 2 hours of late night consoling. Contractions stopped. Brian is (thankfully) feeling better this morning.

Microwave is clean. Fridge is clean. Contractions? Well, I won't be panicked if they start up again because after all...

the microwave is clean.

38 Weeks

Boy oh boy, I think my belly has tripled in size in just three days. At least that's what I feel like. It's kind of like laying in water for too long. Before you know it, everything is all soggy and swollen. That's kind of like me. Brian even informed me yesterday while I was cooking dinner that, "Oh. Ok. I can for sure tell that you're almost done with being pregnant now." Haha. He has such a way with words. Sleeping has finally gotten super duper uncomfortable now and I'm ready for some tummy time!

I went to the doctor today and the nurse said that I'm dilated to a very tight one. I think that's a very nice way of saying, "Darlin', you ain't goin' nowhere yet".

My toenails are painted blue, Claire's fingernails are blue....so we're ready for this little guy to come!

Claire has worn this "Dadu" (Dora) nightgown for the last two days. Yes, she has clothes underneath, but gets mad when it goes into the laundry. Just don't come around her....she probably stinks. She is also now obsessed with the "feeesh" in Finding Nemo.

This was hilarious. She would NOT let me put her shirt back down. She walked around like this for a good 3 hours.
I've also realized that poor Brian doesn't get pictures on the blog very often. He should be home more often to get his picture taken.

Family Pictures

We got family pictures a couple of weeks ago; however, I didn't order the cd of all of the pictures because we'll have a new addition soon and didn't think it was worth the money since they'll be outdated very soon. Why did we get them right before baby boy comes? Well, we had a Groupon that expires on the 16th and had to use it.

Claire was an absolute nightmare the whole time. It's amazing that I look happy in any of these. She would NOT let go of "Bo", so he's in all of our family pictures. Luckily I just washed him, so he looks cute with her. :)

I'm glad that she let me hide my 36 week belly as best as I could. I have to say that I have the cutest little girl in the world (even if the little princess was super naughty)!

These are all of the pictures that I scanned in, so the quality is kinda bad.

We had to buy this Tangled book to bribe her to be good. Luckily it came with stickers (that's what she's playing with in the picture above) and she sat still long enough for us to entertain her.

A SMILE! Nothing that singing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and tickling can't do.

What I've Been Up To

I, for one, cannot stand an unfinished project. Lately I've realized that it's not only because I love to complete things or else they'll go unfinished forever, but I don't have the space to have my creativity leaking out of the nooks and crannies of my walls. Someday I'll have my projects confined to one room instead of the whole house. Until then, I will have a disaster zone periodically until the wave has passed.

My mom got these adorable decals for my baby shower and I am just now getting around to them. They were daunting. I wanted a jungle theme for the kids' room because Claire LOVES animals and it's a good gender neutral theme. However, have you seen how pricey these things can be? My dream one was around $150....for vinyl!!! That, folks, is ridiculous! So, we found these cute ones at Joann's, but I had to color them myself. I'll give myself a pat on the back because they have been a TON of work. It took me at least two hours to paint each animal. That's right...I painted them. Ok, ok, I 'colored' in the lines, but it was a lot more work than I anticipated.

I went in her room today to see what she and her friend were up to and guess...just guess. Yes, that's right, they colored with horrible, vile crayons all over the elephant. I'm not gonna lie...I cried and then repainted it. (I am not a believer in crayons. Most young kids write on walls instead of paper and Claire eats them.)

Other than that, here are some pictures of the munchkin.

She learned how to actually pedal and she's quite proud of herself.

This is how exciting the Oscar's are to Claire. All 3 hours.

I didn't get the actual picture I wanted here. Evelyn is sucking her thumb, but Claire had her finger shoved up her nose. Notice where that finger is now? Gross, I know, but it was so funny.

Claire's new favorite place: bathtub. Sometimes I even have to feed her breakfast in there.

I tried curlers for the first time. Haha. The result was somewhat more lion-like than I wanted, so we'll try bigger curlers next time. Notice what she's watching? Yeah. All I have to say is that it's better than Strawberry Shortcake!

Other than that, I'm due in just 20 days! Is that crazy or what!!! I'm feeling very uncomfortable now. I have sciatica so badly and it gets worse each day. I'm now getting out of bed, not to just pee, but to get my nightly dose of tums for the heartburn that interrupts my wonderful dreams. I cannot wait to see what he looks like and snuggle his tiny little body!!! I got my hospital bag all ready (almost...it's taken me 3 weeks to get this far on it) and now I'm just waiting for the day that I will probably have to be induced. No dilation yet. We'll see what the doc says tomorrow. You'd think that with me carrying 25 pounds of Claire around all the time it would do something. Some people just get on their hands and knees and wipe up spilled milk. Not me. I could lift a car and the only thing happening would be stronger leg muscles. We're excited!!!
