Camping with "Bears"

Brian and I are now the proud owners of a new 2 person REI backpacking tent. It's very small for two people (according to me), but it's only 5 lbs. and we love that it's so light. We haven't gotten much use out of it yet, which is really sad to me. We've only set it up in our living room while I watched Brian sit in it to play video games. Yeah. So, we wanted to get out of the house and actually use it this summer, even if it was a very short one day camping trip. So we planned to go last weekend on Friday night up Squaw Peak. Now, for a little preface:

Do any of you watch the news? Well, I watch it religiously everyday. There's the morning news, the noons at noon, news at 4, the nightly new with Brian Williams, and the 6 o'clock news that I watch. I don't know why, but I LOVE knowing about all the horrible things that are happening in the world. I guess it makes me feel more involved and informed. Well, last week was bear week. It seemed like there were bears popping out all over the place around Utah. Some went away, but most of them just got shot and died. Scary! Well, I guess the news can make you a bit paranoid...

Anway, we couldn't get up to the camping spot we were looking for until about 10 pm since Brian had a softball game that night. We got to our spot, but it was taken! EVERYONE in Utah County was camping! There were no open spots. None. Darn! I was so excited! Well, we started to drive home, much to my dismay, but then we saw an open spot on the side of the road. Yes! We got out of the car to see if the spot was camp-able, and Brian heard "something big" in the bushes next to us. It sounded like a deer to me, but he kept saying "whatever it is, it's big" and then he ran back to the car. Come on, be a man! Well, he started throwing rocks in the bushes and all the noises stopped so we started down this little trail to find a spot, but we got "nervous" and jumpy by every cracking twig beneath our feet. I finally got freaked out enough that I turned around and told Brian we were going home. It was already past 11 and I was tired. As I was doing up my seatbelt, Brian thought it would be hilarious to scream at the NOTHING that was outside just to freak me out some more. Well, he screamed, and I looked up in terror, just knowing that we were about to be eaten by bears that I heard about on the news. When I looked up, I screamed, then I saw that nothing was there, so I buried my head in my hands and started to sob. Yup, that's right. I sobbed. It was as if my heightened emotions had no wear else to go but through my eyes. Brian just started laughing at my crying until I eventually started laughing at myself. We ended up going home and playing ticket to ride instead. Much more safe! :) Just don't watch the news if you're going camping. You'll have a much more enjoyable time that way!

Life's Not That Bad

For three and a half years I have worked at 1-800-Contacts and for two and a half years I have loathe my job more and more at times. Summer is the WORST time to work because it gets sooo busy. Anyway....I have a really hard time being kept inside talking to people on the phone all day long and I get really really irritated. So, today I have been super annoyed because I'm almost done with the work week -one day left- and I'm so sick of talking to people that I can't handle. I heard Brian come through the door, and I get up to go make some dramatic scene of how horrible the day has been, but then he walks around the corner with glasses in one hand and roses in the other, gave me a kiss, and then said he had to go back to work. :) How sweet! Now, I'm not really into mushy posts or anything, but my point is (other than the fact that Brian's the greatest) is that life isn't that bad. All we need is a little reminder from time to time to stop complaining and enjoy what we're doing. The more positive the attitude, the more happiness you'll find along the way. I really am grateful to have my job, and I'm so grateful that I can work at home and I do slightly enjoy it when I make the effort to have a good attitude about it. :)

Happy Anniversary!

It's so crazy that we've already been married for one year! My oh my, how the time flies! I'd have to say that the first year of marriage wasn't as hard as I thought everyone said it would be, women more emotional than Brian thought, and it was just so much fun! Anyway, here are some fun pictures from last year. I'm glad it was more sunny for our wedding than it is today! Happy Anniversary to us! :)

Out of the mouth of Claire

Claire was asking me about Hailey nursing. She was sad to find out that Hailey wasn't nursing anymore. She said, "Well, when I am a mommy can you give my babies milk?" Uh...nope. Can't do that. "Why mom?" Well, my milk will be gone (thank goodness) and you'll have to do it. "Oh, well, I want a big, big, BIG family. TWELVE babies! But I don't want the littlest baby to ever get big because I do NOT want one hundred babies." March 2015
Claire: Daddy, do you stink? Brian: Why do you say that? Claire: Because I can smell you. 6/18/14
Claire walked out of her room and this is what ensued: Daddy: "Claire, get back to bed." Claire: "But Daddy, my bed is being crazy!" (We try hard not to laugh). Daddy: "What?" Claire: "My bed is being crazy!!!" He went back, she tangled her blanket so her feet were getting cold. 5/15/2014
Claire asked her sunbeam teacher what "this" was, pointing to something on her chest. She thought she was talking about the pattern on her dress. Claire said, "No, no! These. They are for milk for babies." 5/2014
Eating corn on the cob for dinner, Claire turned to me and asked, "Mommy, are you going to eat some of this YUUUUMMMMYYY corn?" 5/2014
"Mommy, can you do this for me?" She hands me my eyelash curler and I proceed to curl her eyelashes. She bats her eyes in the mirror and says, "There. That's better." For the record...I have never done this, so she didn't learn it from me. 1/28/14
I was doing Claire's hair , combing through it. "Mommy, stop brushing my hair, you're making me crazy." 1/28/14
Claire has a VERY hard time going #2 in the toilet. She will hold it for days and days, so she ends up sitting on the toilet for hours sometimes. This week, she had been in there for a good two hours (and never went). Anyway, during that time she called me in several times, "MOMMY!!!! Come here!!!" And then would tell me nothing. So, after what seemed like the billionth, "MOMMY come here!" shouting, I went in to find her with the ENTIRE roll of toilet paper collected in a heap in her arms. I looked at her and gasped in frustration. I had just changed that roll! Brand new roll. Think of all that! She looked at me, giggled, and said, "Mommy...hehe....I sneezed...hehe." 1/28/14
We had our first ice storm here in Texas. I took Claire to Costco and let her walk on the ice. "Mom, I need to put on my ice skates". "Claire, do you have ice skates?" "No mom, I don't." Good point though sweetheart!
Claire always wakes me up telling me that the sun is awake. The other day, she came in, told me the sun was awake once more and then told me that she wanted some candy. I informed her that we didn't have any, but she said, "Mom, all we have to do is say Trick-or-treat!"
We went camping and I asked if Claire had fun. Claire: "I love camping, but Jared was naughty. We should leave him home".
Me: "Claire, why are you out of bed?" Claire: "Because of this..." She starts moving as if she'll pee her pants. Me: What? Claire: "Because I have the wiggles."
While at the mall bathroom, "MOMMY! YOU DID IT! YOU PEED!" For everyone to hear.
We're still trying to potty train Claire and have her poop in the potty! She says she does it, but can't seem to have it happen and will hold it for days (which is very frustrating). In an effort to get the ball rolling, I said, "Claire! Let's both push. 1...2...3...push!" At that point I did a fake push and she quickly exclaimed, "MOMMY! Don't poop in your pannies!" 7/12/13
Jared was crying and wandering around the house this morning. He popped his head in the bathroom where Claire and I were, and started to cry. Claire said, "Oh Jared, stop whining". 7/3/13
Brian and I were talking about the frustrating expenses of moving. At one point I said (about our debt), "It's all my fault." Claire came to the rescue and said, "NO! It's MY fault! My fault....and Jared's!"
This morning Claire woke up at 5 am screaming, "I WANT A COOKIE!!!!!" I went in, she repeated her sentiments. I promised her a cookie and she went back to sleep. When she got out of bed at 10:30, she jumped into my arms and said, "Where's my cookie?"
